The Steadward
Centre
for Personal & Physical Achievement
The Steadward Centre is pleased to be a part of the recently
expanded and renovated St. Joseph High School. The satellite facility
runs both the Adult Fitness and Lifestyle Program (AFLP) and Stretch N’
Tone programs in conjunction with short term recreational activities
and educational seminars in health and fitness.
All programs stress the importance of leading healthy active
lifestyles. Long term programs (AFLP and Stretch N’ Tone), more
specifically, aim to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness
and flexibility by means of adaptive and regular exercise equipment. A
fully multi-station Equalizer gym is centered at the hub of the
facility with arm cycles, bikes, free weights, leg curl/extension
machine and much more supporting the successful completion of exercise
programs at all levels of ability.
In addition to the aforementioned, resources available to members
expands tremendously with full access to the St. Joseph Sport
Institute. This facility includes a selection of stationary bikes,
Stairmaster, leg press and other exercise equipment available in
typical community fitness centers.
The Steadward Centre is excited about the many opportunities
offered by our facility’s integration into this most impressive high
school. Accessibility to both the school and TSC facility are very
good. DATS (Disabled Adult Transit System) drop-off and pick-up
locations are conveniently located at the main entrance to the school
with a short jaunt up to the Centre. For those members driving, there
is plenty of free parking in a lot just opposite the main entrance.
The school is equipped with power doors, elevators and large
accessible washrooms. Interested in grabbing something to eat after
your workout? The cafeteria is available to members from 11:30 am to
12:30 pm and, of course, plenty of vending machines to satisfy
"the munchies".
The adapted fitness instructor at the Satellite Centre provides
exercise programming for all TSC members as well as interested school
staff and students (including students with a disability). The
coordinator/ instructor is qualified to perform fitness assessments and
act as a resource for information on health and wellness and adapted
physical activity.
Please visit our St. Joe's
Satellite Photo Gallery.… and we
hope to see you soon.
