"Enhanced Oil and Heavy Oil Recovery under Ultrasonic Radiation"

My research focuses on the effects of ultrasonic waves on oil recovery and multiphase flow through porous media. Capillary imbibition experiments are conducted to investigate these effects. The focus is mainly on (a) the effect of initial water saturation for different wettability rocks and (b) the effect of different oil viscosities. To profoundly investigate the acoustic interaction between rock and fluid, I also perform some visualization experiments. I use 2-D glass bead and micro models to clarify the effects of pore structure, initial water and wettability on the ultrasonically stimulated displacement at pore (micro models) and core (glass bead models) scales. The qualitative and quantitative observations and analyses are expected to shed light on the further investigations in the use of in-situ recovery of oil/heavy-oil as well as surface extraction.
