"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." (Margaret Mead)

The University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre provides an excellent volunteer experience while enabling individuals to make an active contribution to the campus community.

As a Volunteer:

  • Gain skills to empower survivors
  • Experience personal development and growth
  • Receive 50 hours of crisis intervention training
  • Donate time to areas related to public awareness, education, and fund raising.

Training:

All volunteers will complete crisis intervention training which will  provide them with the information and skills needed to work with survivors of sexual assaults. Training is also an excellent opportunity to bond with, and learn from the other new and returning volunteers.

  • Attendance at training is mandatory for all volunteers in order for the Centre to maintain a high standard of service to our clients
  • All volunteers will be expected to attend 50 hours of training prior to actively participating at the Centre
  • Volunteers will be asked to attend ongoing training sessions throughout the year
  • Attendance at the January Annual General Meeting is mandatory

Shifts:

All volunteers will be responsible for a minimum of one shift, or 4 hours per week, which includes 3 hours of crisis intervention and one hour for committee meetings/projects.

Committees

The committees are an important part of the Sexual Assault Centre as they enable volunteers to work on various projects that contribute to the growth of the Centre, which in turn, strengthen the services offered to our clients.

Committee meetings will be held as necessary and volunteers who have become involved in committees are expected to attend all the meetings of their group.

All volunteers will be responsible for participating in one of the  following committees:

  • Communications committee
  • Education committee
  • Fundraising committee
  • Public Relations committee
  • Social committee
  • Training committee
