SCHOLARSHIPS

Students in the Ukrainian Folklore are eligible to benefit from thousands of dollars in scholarship money. Some scholarships and awards are specifically aimed at students in our program. These are listed individually below. Other scholarship competitions are open to students taking Ukrainian courses throughout Alberta, other again are open to students at the University of Alberta. Ivan Franko Scholarship

The Ivan Franko scholarship is based on the Kuryliw Family Endowment Fund, it is spefically designed to support graduate students in the Ukrainian Folklore Program. Assistantships have a value of $8000 - $10,000 for two terms. Additional assistantships may be available for the summer term. The assistantship provides basic living expenses for the graduate student, and involves some work as a research assistant.

Wasyl and Anna Kuryliw

Wasyl Kuryliw came to Canada in 1928 at the age of 17. His successful career included many years at INCO mines. Wasyl and his wife Anna raised a son and two daughters and have long been active in the Ukrainian commnity in Sudbury.

The Kuryliw endowment, supplemented with donations from numerous other individuals and a 2:1 matching grant from the Government of Alberta in 1987, has grown to over $500,000.

 


Kawulych Family Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduate student with the best academic record. The value of the scholarship is $1000.00


Undergraduate Scholarships

Each year undergraduate students with the best academic record in Ukrainian Folklore courses share $1000.00 in scholarships.
