Career and Volunteer Forum:
Good morning,
I am writing today to thank you for your support of the Psychology Career Forum last evening that was co-sponsored by the Department of Psychology and Career and Placement Services and promoted by the Undergraduate Psychology Association (UPA). I have attached some photos of the event.
We had 84 students attend the career forum and 6 speakers (who all have a Psychology Degree or Master in Psychology Degree).
Speakers included:
Will Smallacombe, Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Facility
Constable Rochelle Going, Edmonton Police Service Recruiter
Marc Roy, Alberta Hospital Ponoka, Provisional Psychologist
Michelle Jobs, Catholic Social Services
Dayna Zimmer, Catholic Social Services
Michael Bodnar, Bredin Institute, Employment Assistant
The students provided very positive feedback. Some of the comments include:
- There were opportunities that I didn't know about, it was nice to hear there are some opportunities with just a B.A. or B.Sc
- It gave a clearer perspective about what's available with a BA and it also emphasized the importance of volunteering with has, as of now, motivated me to do so. Also my contemplation of participating in an internship has become a guaranteed participation.
- There are a lot more options out there than I thought
- The women from Catholic Social Services I found most helpful because that's the area I'm interested in right now.
- I just assumed speakers would all have a PhD or Master. It is nice to hear from people with a BA and BSc.
- It was informative and addressed real issues and obstacles that need to be considered when job searching.
- There were diverse speakers with different levels of education so it helped to know what opportunities are out there.
- Valuable. The debate over the necessity of the master's degree was definitely interesting.
- Please include a professor at the University to speak about their career path or how they can assist us.
Thank you for your support! We appreciate working with you!
