Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I’m a 4th year Psychology major - Sociology minor, which is most likely why I’m interested in research the falls under the Social Psychology umbrella.

One thing you like about the UPA: The UPA is an awesome source of all things Psychology, made up of some really awesome people!

One thing you want to improve about the UPA: I want every Psych major to know who and what the UPA is, because I feel the information the UPA has to offer can only improve a Psych student’s university experience.

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: I love tea. I love it so much that my friends created a joke band just so they could make a rap about my tea obsession this summer. So, if you ever see me without my tea, you know something is really really wrong.

Name: Mark McKeown

Position: VP Internal

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests:  I am a third and a half ish year Bachelor of Sciences student with a major in psychology and a minor in biology probably. I was initially enrolled in engineering for my first year but realized my math skills were not something to base my career upon. I am interested in the Neuroscience, biology, and psychology of neurodegenerative diseases, willpower, memory, and emotion. I’ll graduate eventually…

One thing I like about the UPA: Unbeknownst to most, we actually have two offices... because we’re that cool. I really like the opportunity to meet and organize with fellow students towards group directed growth as well as provide opportunities for other students.

One thing I want to improve this year : Work on the old GPA as usual, do some solid volunteering, and spread the word about the UPA around the U of A.

An interesting fact about yourself:   An interesting fact about yourself: I enjoy the smell of oil in the primarily to being born and raised in Fort McMurray, and working there as a laborer most summers. I also competitively race and freestyle ride Longboards.

Name: Jennifer Freeman   

Position: VP External

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I am a three (and a half) year Bachelor of Arts student with a major in psychology and a minor in linguistics. I hope to continue studying these related fields in grad school and therefore will be applying into the Speech and Language Pathology graduate program here at the UofA in 2012!

One thing I like about the UPA: I am so thankful for the opportunities I have had to network with my fellow psychology peers and my psychology professors/faculty- and I’ve only just started!

One thing I want to improve this year: Volunteer and work experience opportunities for my fellow psychology peers. Having a high GPA is incredibly important as we all now, but a resume isn’t complete without related experience in the field.

An interesting fact about yourself: I was born and raised in the Yukon Territory and I am strongly passionate about my community at large. Without a doubt, I plan to return to the Yukon to practice after my degree(s). And, No, I do not live in an igloo nor do I have a dog sled team.

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I am in my second year of study majoring in a BA in psychology. My main research interest is in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and I hope one day to apply it in a way that I can help emergency response personnel.

One thing you like about the UPA: The positive attitude and atmosphere that everyone has, its a great way to unwind from a tough week of studying to just sit down and chat with everyone!

One thing I want to improve this year: To get volunteers more involved in the program. I feel they deserve to learn as much from us execs about psychology as we can learn from them as people.

An interesting fact about yourself: I really like cookies. Like seriously. Cookies.

Position: VP Academic

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, and research interests:I am currently in my third year of study at the University of the Alberta, with a major in psychology and a minor in political science. After graduating, I plan to pursue a Master's degree in journalism... Although I'd like to take a year to travel first, some globetrotting in the middle of my education sandwich.

One thing you like about the UPA: The UPA provides a great opportunity to get more involved in the psychology program and student community - beyond the countless lectures, hours of study, and exams.

One thing you want to improve about the UPA this year:The UPA needs to gain some 'street cred' on campus. More students, more awareness, and a clearer understanding of what students can gain from the UPA.

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: My commute to school, back and forth, takes two hours a day. Any given school week, I've spent a minimum of ten hours on buses.

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I have been at the University of Alberta for a long, long time. When I started, beartracks was archaic and difficult to use, so we also had to use bearscat in order to make our schedules readable.

One thing you like about the UPA: The UPA is like a family, except without the affection or even blood ties.

One thing you want to improve about the UPA this year: I want to make the UPA more like a family, with lots of affection and maybe even blood ties IF PHYSICALLY VIABLE.

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: I'm an Honors English.

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I am on my 4th year in Psychology/Sociology double major. I love social psychology and my main interest involves the different reactions and behaviours of the individual when in groups.

One thing you like about the UPA:It is a great opportunity to learn more about what the Psychology (arts and science) program can offer, as well as a good way to meet new people and explore different areas of interest.

One thing you want to improve about the UPA: To increase student’s knowledge about their student association, of their own program, and of the many different opportunities that are available to them through UPA.

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: I am Mexican, but nobody believes me when I tell them because I don’t like tequila, guacamole, tamales or spicy food.

Position: Fundraising Coordinator and Student Rep

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I'm in my 3rd year of a bachelor of science psychology major/sociology minor. My interests lie in neuropsychology, specifically towards neuropsychological disorders, executive function and memory.

One thing you like about the UPA: Everyone is very welcoming! I joined the UPA because I got to be more involved in my program. It's a great way to learn about other opportunities, volunteer and meet some great people along the way.

One thing you want to improve about the UPA this year: Get our name out there! There's so many ways you can get involved with the UPA. We're a science and arts psych group. Academic support, creative writing, social events, fundraising The UPA is where it's at!

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: I seriously did not know until recently where prunes came from. They're dried up plums? What? How did I not know that?

Two sentences on year of study, major/minor, research interests: I'm in my fourth year of sciences majoring in biology. I'm hoping to go into medicine and eventually maybe dermatology.

One thing you like about the UPA: I just joined the UPA and am loving how friendly everyone is!

One thing you want to improve about the UPA this year: I would like to bring about positive awareness for the Undergrad Psychology Association (just like everyone else).

An interesting/funny fact about yourself: I love watching movies and travelling. Right now my favorite places to go on vacation are Los Angeles and San Diego.
