A view of the cryogenic magnetometer facility at the Physics Department of the University of Alberta. The facility was funded by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and University of Alberta.

Performed paleomagnetic services for industry and research groups include but not limited by:

1.       Magnetostratigraphy

2.       Cyclostratigraphy using advanced techniques developed in the lab

3.       Paleomagnetic dating of igneous rocks and sediments

4.       Paleomagnetic core re-orientation and core correlation

5.       Determining of the paleocurrent/flow direction in the sediments using anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility

6.       Magnetoenvironmental studies (magnetic property measurements of sediment cores, natural outcrops and modern soils or surface samples from polluted basins or areas often show that concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and a number of heavy metals (Pb, As, Ni, Cu, Cr, Zn, Cd, Fe) are strongly correlated with magnetic susceptibility, magnetic mineralogy and grain size parameters)
