1. PHYS 124 Particles and Waves
Algebra-based course primarily for students in life, environmental, and medical sciences. It guides the student through two distinct types of motion: motion of matter (particles) and wave motion. Vectors, forces, bodies in equilibrium, review of kinematics and basic dynamics; conservation of momentum and energy; circular motion; vibrations; elastic waves in matter; sound; wave optics; black body radiation, photons, de Broglie waves.

2.  GEOPH 110          Introduction to Geophysics
The Earth in the solar system; earthquakes, seismology and structure of the Earth's interior; gravity and the shape of the Earth; geomagnetism, geodynamics and plate tectonics; atmospheric and space physics and Sun-Earth interactions; discussion of geophysics as a career.

2. GEOPH 210           Physics of the Earth
Evolution of the Earth; paleoclimatic reconstruction and climatic variations, variations in the Earth’s orbital parameters and sea-level changes; magnetic fields and rock magnetism; global geodynamics, mantle convection and the geodynamo; geohazards, earthquakes and magnetic storms.

3. GEOPH 223           Environmental Monitoring and Mining Exploration Techniques
Near surface geophysical techniques; gravity, magnetics, shallow seismic, electrical and electromagnetic methods, radiometric; environmental monitoring; rock properties; the effect of contaminants on rock properties.

4. GEOPH 325           Gravity, Magnetic and Electrical Techniques
Theory of gravity, shape of the earth, nature of the geomagnetic field, magnetic, and electrical exploration methods; factors controlling density, resistivity, and magnetic properties of rocks; applications in environmental geophysics, continental dynamics and mineral exploration; instrumentation. Analysis of gravity, magnetic and resistivity data.

5. GEOPH 437           Environmental and Exploration Geophysics (including the summer field school).
Electrical, electromagnetic, gravity, magnetic, and survey data sets are obtained by the student during field school are processed, modeled, and interpreted by the student in a computer workstation laboratory; final results are presented in the form of professional reports.
