Lab for Biological Sciences

Professor Bev Mitchell (bev.mitchell@ualberta.ca)
Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta has established a Digital Teaching Resources Laboratory where faculty, graduate students and staff can receive hardware, software and instructional support for the development of visual teaching aids. These visual aids -- including photos, artwork, animations, simulations and digital video clips -- will become essential elements in laboratory, classroom, CD and on-line instruction materials.

Together with our collaborators at the Universities of Calgary and Lethbridge, we are now developing a database that will organize our increasing collection of digital teaching resource elements, and make them available to instructors of biology throughout the Province of Alberta. The database will be housed on the new Sun SITE server at the University of Alberta, and will be a peer-reviewed resource containing the highest quality materials for post-secondary teaching in biology.
