Topography of Transition zone discontinuities ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The topography measurement of the transition zone discontinuities (400, 670) are stored in TOPO-GD2000 (for Gu, Dziewonski and Ekstrom, 2002, in review) & TOPO-GD2000_RAW (for Gu, Dziewonski and Ekstrom, 2002, in review) The difference between these two files is that TOPO-GD2000 is measured using correlation functions and is considered more robust measurements. TOPO-GD2000_RAW is measured from stacking of the original displacement seismograms and is more likely to be bised by anomalous traces, but, the results of these two files are generally consistent. The columns are: 1 = cap number 2 = cap latitude 3 = cap longitude 4 = true cap lat (averaged cap location for all traces, different from cap center) 5 = true cap lon (averaged cap location for all traces, different from cap center) 6 = number of traces 7 = raw SS-S400S (without correction for heterogeneity, topo, crust), in seconds 8 = raw depth of the 400 9 = corrected SS-S400S (corrected for all things) 10 = corrected depth of the 400 (corrected for all things) 11 = standard deviation (error) of SS-S400S 12 = standard deviation (error) of 400 depth (in km) 13 = raw SS-S670S (without correction for heterogeneity, topo, crust), in seconds 14 = raw depth of the 670 15 = corrected SS-S670S (corrected for all things) 16 = corrected depth of the 670 (corrected for all things) 17 = standard deviation (error) of SS-S670S 18 = standard deviation (error) of 670 depth (in km) 19 = average distance for all the traces (between 100 and 160 degrees) The location file for the 10-degree nearly equal-area caps is /scratch/troika23/gu/dbase/CAPLOC_10DEG ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Measurement of Transition zone thickness (S400S-S670S times) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The differential travel times of S400S-S670S (which constrains transition zone thickness, see Gu and Dziewonski, JGR, JULY, 2002) is stored in measurement_thickness_publish.table The columns are: 1 = cap longitude 2 = cap latitude 3 = S400S-S670S time relative to PREM prediction, negative means thinner transition zone 4 = amplitude of the S400S correlation pulse relative to that of PREM, in percent (less reliable) 5 = bootstrapped average S400S-S670S time relative to PREM prediction (reliable!!) 6 = bootstrapped standard deviation (error, in sec) for S400S-S670S, the smaller the better 7 = average distance of the traces in the stack 8 = signal to noice ratio cutoff (3) in the selection of records 9 = number of records in the stack
