WELCOME TO THE
YOUTH TRANSITIONS LAB!

Established in 2002, the Youth Transitions Lab is a research group dedicated to the study of adolescent development and the transition to adulthood from a lifespan perspective. Recent research has investigated a variety of topics, including first-year university students' psychosocial maturity, sleep, depressive symptoms, alcohol use, binge eating, and sexual behaviours; adolescent dating, sex, substance use, aggression, relations with parents, and subjective age; and depression, self-esteem, and anger among individuals making the transition to adulthood.

We are interested in learning about the ways in which young people develop and change over time. Questions we ask include, "Do factors such as gender, level of maturity, and friendships influence trajectories of change in young people's personal, social, and emotional well-being?" and "Do personal, social, and emotional experiences covary (change together) over time?" By answering these questions, we hope to contribute to an understanding of the ways in which young people's lives are affected by the interactions among individual, family, school, work, and societal contexts that challenge Canadian youth every day.

The Youth Transitions Lab is located in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The lab is operated under the direction of Dr. Nancy Galambos.
