Nancy Galambos

Lab Director and Professor of Psychology

Nancy earned her Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University in 1985. She then worked as a Research Associate on the Berlin Youth Longitudinal Study, based at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. In 1986, she joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria. In 2002, Nancy joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on development in adolescence and the transition to adulthood, with a focus on psychosocial maturity, subjective age, health and risk behaviours, relations with parents, and depression.

Dayuma Ixchel Vargas Lascano

Graduate Student and lab member since 2008

Dayuma joined the Youth Transitions Lab in September, 2008 after completing an honours B.Sc. in Forensic Psychology at the University of Toronto. Dayuma earned a M.Sc. from the University of Alberta in 2010 under the supervision of Dr. Nancy Galambos and is currently completing her Ph.D. in Developmental Science. Dayuma's research focuses on social relationships and their influence in the development of youth during the transition to adulthood and, more specifically, the transition to post-secondary education.

Jiawen Chen

Graduate Student and lab member since 2010

Jiawen joined the Youth Transitions Lab in September, 2010 after completing a B.A. in Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Jiawen is currently competing an M.Sc. in developmental science under the co-supervision of Dr. Nancy Galambos and Dr. Lisa Strohschein. Jiawen's M.Sc. thesis examines the association between romantic relationships and adjustment to university among Canadian youth.

Andrea (Dalton) Howard

Graduate student and lab member, 2004-2010

Andrea joined the Youth Transitions Lab in September, 2004 after completing an honours degree in Psychology at the University of Toronto. Andrea earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Science from the University of Alberta in 2010 under the supervision of Dr. Nancy Galambos and is currently completing a post doctoral position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Quantitaty Pyschology Program. Andrea's research focuses on sexual behaviour and development during adolescence and the transition to adulthood, and the impact of engagement in sexual behaviour on trajectories of positive development and growth in Canadian youth.
