The
Shemone Esrei is a prayer we recite every day. During the weekday, it is
the same throughout but on Shabbat it changes from one service to the next.
The
motif of the Friday night service is sanctity.
"You sanctified the seventh day for Your name's sake."
The motif of the morning service is the difference between Israel and the other nations. It is because of this difference that Hashem gave them the wonderful gift of Shabbat.
"You did not give it to the nations of the world and did not bequeath it, our king, to idolators, but gave it with love to Your people, Israel".
In the Mincha prayer we add another theme. While we spoke about the difference between Israel and the nations in the morning, we now speak about uniueness.
"You are One and Your name is One, and who is like Your nation, Israel, a unique nation in the world."
