One day Honi was traveling on a road when he came upon an old man planting a carob tree. Honi asked him, "How long does it take for this tree to bear fruit?" The man replied, "Seventy years." "Do you think you will live another seventy years?" asked Honi. "No Sir, I know that I am old and I won't live to eat from the fruit of this tree. However, when I came to the world I found that my ancestors planted carob trees for me. Every time I eat from the fruit I remember my ancestors and I bless them." said the man. "Now, I am planting for my children, so they will remember me and will plant for their children."
