Tech transfer and commercialization

TEC Edmonton, a joint venture between the U of A and Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, fosters commercialization of research and brings the results of innovation to the benefit of Albertans.

In 2016-17, TEC Edmonton’s clients launched 198 products and services, created nearly 400 jobs in 98 organization, and generated $235 million in revenue. TEC Edmonton has assisted in the creation of 26 spinoffs from the U of A since 2011.

In 2014, TEC Edmonton was identified by Startup Canada as the Incubator of the Year, and by the Scandinavian UBI University Business Incubator Index as the 10th best university business incubator in the world.

A portion of main-floor Enterprise Square location has been transformed into the TEC Innovation District, a 24-hour accelerator workspace to help tech entrepreneurs and companies grow and succeed with the help of TEC Edmonton's in-house team of experts.
