June 2016 marked the largest single gift in the U of A’s history as the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation gave $40 million to the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute. The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation gave an additional $14.5 million for a total of $54.5 million (over 10 years; therefore only a portion of the $54.5 million is reflected in the $441.2 million in revenue for 2015/2016). The institute, a decade-long partnership between the university and Alberta Health Services, is the only organization in Canada dedicated to the full spectrum of women’s, children’s and perinatal health.

The U of A is home to 52 Tier 1 and 34 Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs at an annual value of $13.8 million and three Canada Excellence Research Chairs, each valued at $10 million over seven years.
