    Preparing you for Graduate Studies

    Offered exclusively to graduate students, EAP 550 is an intensive course designed to build the language skills necessary for students to be effective, independent participants in graduate studies at an English language university. Course content focuses on developing the advanced reading, writing and speaking skills required in graduate school. Coursework assignments and assessments reflect the demands of graduate level study.

    EAP 550 runs for 14 weeks (224 hours), four hours per day, Mondays - Thursdays. It is offered 3 times per year beginning in January, May, and September.

    Our EAP 550 course fulfills the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement for many of UAlberta's most popular graduate programs. EAP 550 has been accepted instead of TOEFL or IELTS by the following programs and faculties:

    • Daily schedule: Monday - Thursday
      4 hours per day –
      Morning (8:30 am - 12:30 pm)*
                          or
      Afternoon (1:00 pm - 5:00 pm)*
    • NEW schedule starting September 2019:
    • Monday to Friday
      3 hours and 15 minutes per day 
      Morning (9:00 am - 12:15 pm)*
                          or
      Afternoon (12:45 pm - 4:00 pm)*
