Research Internships at the University of Alberta are the perfect opportunity for you to explore all that the University and the province of Alberta has to offer. Our dedicated staff plan numerous events and trips throughout the year where interns will have many chances to discover life in Canada through cultural activities on and off campus, alongside other interns and students from around the world.

On-Campus Activities

There are always fun things to do on campus, and the International Student & Visitor Services team at University of Alberta International provides opportunities for interns and students to join group events. From welcome parties, to rock climbing at Wilson Climbing Centre, to scavenger hunts, to board games and movie nights, there are activities for everyone! Also participate in seasonal cultural events such as pumpkin carving for Halloween, ice skating or winter tobogganing.

Explore Edmonton

Visit the Art Gallery of Alberta and Alberta Legislative Assembly take a tour of Old Strathcona, a shopping and dining district, or check out the world-famous West Edmonton Mall. While you are here in Edmonton, you will have a chance to try Canadian winter sports through indoor and outdoor ice skating, tobogganing/sledding or skiing in one of our ski resorts with us! Our coordinators will help you get to know your new surroundings by organizing trips around the city so you can enjoy life as a local!

Out-of-Town and Overnight Trips

No trip to Alberta would be complete without a visit to the Canadian Rocky Mountains and our National Parks. Research interns will have opportunities to join other international students on trips to world-famous Banff and Jasper National Parks, where they will experience the natural beauty of the mountains, lakes, and likely see some wildlife such as deer, elk, beavers, bears, and/or moose!

In addition to trips to the Rockies, our staff also organize trips to other areas of Alberta, such as a fossil-rich dinosaur town Drumheller, a financial hub of Alberta - Calgary, and Elk Island National Park full of bison, beavers and many other wildlife!
