Eligibility

Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing at RWTH Aachen. Visit RWTH Aachen’s web page for complete eligibility information.

Candidate's research stay may commence at any time of year. Depending on the availability of the host professor and the visiting student, the duration can be anywhere from 3-9 months. Applicants may receive up to 6 months of funding from RWTH Aachen, which can be held consecutively with a UARE internship (12 weeks) for a total of ~9 months.

University of Alberta International will guide and directly assist the host professor and the RWTH Aachen research candidate through the invitation and immigration application process.

The University of Alberta International Internship Coordinator (Inbound) staff member is responsible for overseeing this program and submitting theForeign Visitor Category Assessmentfor any research interns as necessary.

Candidates will normally be formally invited to the University of Alberta, and must obtain the proper immigration documents. This is dependent on a few factors, the primary one being the length of stay as a researcher.

Stays of lessthan 120 calendar days:

• Global Skills Strategy Short-term (120 Day) Work PermitExemptionfor Researchersand must obtain a visitor visa and/oreTA (Electronic Travel Authorization)

Stays of morethan 120 calendar days:

• Research Award Recipientsmust obtain awork permitalong with potential visitor visa and/oreTA (Electronic Travel Authorization)

The appropriate student category for invitation will be determined and confirmed with all parties after nomination/application on an ad-hoc basis, as it can depend on individual factors as well.
