Information for U of A Funding Recipients

Congratulations on receiving an award offer! You've accomplished a lot already - and we're looking forward to seeing what you can do here at the University of Alberta.

By now, you should have received an email containing a Notice of Award Letter to your UAlberta email account. This Notice includes detailed information about the award(s) you are receiving. You can also view your award offers in Bear Tracks, under Awards & Financial Support.

If you receive a scholarship, award, or bursary offer from the U of A, you will need to accept your award offer and pay your tuition deposit before you can receive funding. Please note that there can be up to a 5 day delay between the time you pay your tuition deposit and when it is applied to your student account. If you are not able to accept your offer right after paying your deposit, that is likely why. See below for more details on the next steps. (If you are receiving funding from an organization external to the U of A, please follow up with them for information on how to receive your funds).

Deadline for accepting your award

Note there is a deadline for you to accept/decline your award, after which time your award offer will be revoked.

Admission-Based Entrance Scholarship offer deadline:

 October 2022 to July 2023

Fall term registration deadline

Application-Based Entrance Scholarship offer deadlines:

February 2023

March 28, 2023

Deadlines will be added as offers are made.

How to accept your funding offer

These instructions apply to awards administered by the University of Alberta.

In order to accept your scholarship offer, you must first accept your admission offer and pay your tuition deposit. For step-by-step instructions on accepting your admission offer click here. Please note it can take up to 5 business days for our system to update with your admission acceptance and change the status of your award offer.

  1. Log in to Bear Tracks and go to Financial Account > Awards and Financial Support > My Awards & Financial Support. You may be prompted to choose a specific year/term.
  2. Click on the award offer and review the terms of the offer to confirm you meet the eligibility requirements.
  3. Click "Accept" for each offer that you wish to accept. (You can also choose to decline an award offer - see below for more information.) Please note you MUST accept your admission offer by paying your tuition deposit in order to accept any scholarship offers. It may take up to 3 business days for our system to update your award status before you can accept your scholarship offer once you have accepted your admission offer.
  4. Enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN). SIN is mandatory for Canadian citizens and is used when issuing tax documents at the end of the year.
  5. Read the Privacy (FOIP) statement and answer Yes or No. Answering no to the FOIP statement does not affect your eligibility to receive the award.

If you have been offered multiple awards, repeat the above steps as needed.

When should you decline your offer?

If you do not plan on attending the University of Alberta, or if you no longer meet the award criteria, please decline the offer so that we can offer it to another eligible recipient.

How to receive your University of Alberta funds

In order to receive your funds, you must:

  1. Accept your award offer.
  2. Meet the terms and conditions of the award.
  3. Maintain full-time registration status at the University of Alberta in the faculty/department specified.

The Office of the Registrar will review all awards following the Add/Drop Deadline of each term to ensure registration requirements are met.

Funding offers made before January 1 will be divided and applied equally to the Fall and Winter terms. Funding offers made after January 1 will be applied in full to the Winter term.

Your funding will first be applied to any outstanding tuition and fees you may have. Any remaining funds will then be refunded to you via PayMyTuition (see “Refunds” below) - but not before the Tuition Fee Refund deadline for that term.

Award funds cannot be used to pay the Tuition Deposit.

The University of Alberta works with PayMyTuition, an electronic payment tool, to remit digital international and domestic refunds. Interac e-Transfers through PayMyTuition has replaced direct deposit and cheques for scholarship, award and bursary refunds.

Upon approval of your refund from the University of Alberta, you will receive an email from the university confirming that your refund has been issued. Once your refund is processed, your student account balance in Bear Tracks is updated. You will receive an e-Transfer link and further instructions by email in 5-10 business days. To receive additional support, please contact

An international PayMyTuition refund cannot be deposited into a Canadian bank account. If you would like to deposit the funds into a Canadian bank account, please contact to have the international refund cancelled and reissued as a Canadian Interac e-Transfer.

You will receive a T4A tax form for any award funding you receive, for use on your next tax return. Taxes will not be deducted at the time your award is disbursed. If you have an international mailing address, you will need to update it to your current living address. Please see Tax Forms and Receipts for more information about T4As.

How to thank your donor

Many undergraduate awards at the University of Alberta are funded through the generosity of donors. Even if you applied to a general scholarship competition, it's likely that your funding will consist of individual, donor-backed awards. Your Notice of Award letter will include donor information.

Please take a moment to Thank Your Donor. It only takes a few minutes, but it means a lot to our donors and goes a long way towards ensuring their continued generosity for future students like you!

External funding

If you are receiving funds from outside of the University, please mail the cheque to:

Office of the Registrar
Finance and Administration
B-16 Administration
University of Alberta
Edmonton AB T6G 2M7
Attention: External Funding

Make sure to endorse the cheque by signing the back of it, and please include your full name and ID number on the envelope or in a note inside the envelope, if the front of the cheque doesn't contain that information.

External funding will be posted to student accounts after the add/drop deadline.

Please note we do not invoice for external funding, funding organizations must provide a cheque to the University of Alberta.
