Faculty of Engineering
Heard of engineering, but what is it... really?
Lori Smith from the University of Alberta will spend some time talking about what engineering even is and some ways to think about it as a job as well as a mindset; how to change the world, one problem at a time.
Engineering is all around us. It's in the appliances that you use in your home, your phone, your computer, your TV, and it's also outside, in the world, making things easier and more convenient for humans. We'll talk about some real-world examples you're probably familiar with, and also talk about some out-of-this world inventions that current students are currently working on to change the world and make it better.
We'll cover:
- what engineering even is
- real-world applications of engineering
- what kinds of jobs exist for engineers
- what supports are available to students in an engineering program in university
- admission process and courses required
- how to explore an interest in engineering further
- an opportunity to ask your questions
