Mariana grew up in Mexico and attended high school in Langley, British Columbia.
Mariana created her campus community by volunteering for faculty groups, joining clubs, and having roommates! She is studying nutrition and food science, and wants to give people the tools to make positive healthy changes to their lives.
Meet Johnny, an Urban Planning student from Edmonton, Alberta.
Before coming to university he was shy, but found that the UAlberta campus community has given him a place to come out of his shell. He loves Edmonton for its green spaces and vibrancy, and is discovering more of it every day.
Meet Beverley, a Fine Arts student from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Beverley dreams of changing the world through art. She chose the U of A to make this dream possible because it has one of the best acting programs in Canada.
Abby is an engineering student from Edmonton, Alberta.
She is an aspiring astronaut and member of the U of A AlbertaSat team, developing the Ex-Alta 2 cube satellite that will predict, track, and assess the after-effects of wildfires. She is also involved in WISEST, and is a leader at Science Fun Day.
Yasmin has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biological Sciences. Her studies at the U of A allowed her to merge all of her passions into one degree.
Yasmin continues to excel — in September 2017 she'll begin her studies at Oxford University in England as a recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship, one of the most prestigeous scholarships in the world.
Meet Kabir, an engineering physics co-op student from Mississauga, Ontario.
Kabir won the Loran award, a prestigeous scholarship that would have allowed him to attend any of the top 25 schools in Canada.
Kabir's degree allowed him to mix his creativity and analytical skills.
Meet Marina, a political science student from Edmonton, Alberta.
Marina discovered her passion for politics while getting involved with the Student Council at the U of A, and she is now our Students' Union President for the 2017-18 school year.
Meet Michael, a kinesiology and education student from Maskwacis (Samson Cree Nation), Alberta.
Michael discovered his passion for mentorship through his years of coaching. He decided to pursue a degree that would allow him to continue having an impact in the lives of young students. He has been able to merge his passions for sports and teaching with his combined degree.
Meet Jenna, a law student from North West River, Nunatsiavut (NL).
Jenna is passionate about representing the Indigenous community in the Faculty of Law and within the law community. She credits resources available to her through the Faculty of Native studies to helping her get where she is today.

Austin chose to study at the U of A because of the reputation of the Alberta School of Business. He's passionate about developing his leadership and business skills during his degree in order to set him up for a successful career.

Alex discovered her passion for improving agricultural practices while working in Australia. She got involved in the campus community through different clubs and teams to make the most of her time on campus.
Meet Ivan, a land reclamation student from Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Ivan began his studies at Campus Saint Jean in order to learn in his first language, French, before finishing his degree on North Campus. He got involved with sustainability student groups during his studies as well as dancing to stay close to his culture.
Meet Jessie, a Native Studies and Education student from Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Jessie is taking a double degree program to align with her goals of teaching Indigenous youth. She enriched her time at the U of A by studying abroad at the Cortona, Italy, campus, which was one of the highlights of her degree.
