Major Responsibilities/Research Interests 

My research program centers on the effect of nutrition on the immune system. Current areas of research are: the role of polyunsaturated fats in development of the immune system and in the treatment of inflammation in metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, the effect of dietary nutrients on the gut associated immune system, the use of specific lipids in the prevention and treatment of cancer and the modulation of tumour metabolism, the efficacy and mechanisms to use n-3 fatty acids to improve the efficacy of chemotherapy in breast cancer and the association between nutritional status and maternal mental health and the neuro-physical development of infants.
