The Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Parkins as the new chair of the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology. Dr. Parkins will serve a five-year term beginning July 1, 2019.
Dr. Parkins is a professor of environmental sociology in the department. He has a PhD from the University of Alberta’s Department of Sociology and was hired as an associate professor in 2007, after working for 10 years at the Canadian Forest Service. Dr. Parkins’ previous appointments at the university include graduate co-ordinator, elected member of the ALES Faculty Evaluation Committee and a member of Research Ethics Board 1. His research background includes the social context of renewable energy development in Canada, rural development, environmental politics, and the sociology of food and agriculture.
