Each year, the University of Alberta recognizes outstanding alumni who have made exceptional contributions to the community through their professional achievements, community service and innovation.
This year, we are proud to announce that four Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences alumni are being recognized for a wide variety of achievements in three categories.
The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes living University of Alberta alumni who have earned national or international prominence as a result of their outstanding professional achievements and service to society. This year, we are celebrating two alumni in this category:
Donald Brinton ('51 BScAg), for his remarkable contributions to the Canadian television broadcasting industry; and C. Wayne Lindwall ('71 BScAg, '75 MSc) whose work with conservation tillage has been revolutionary, with international impact on climate change and food production.
The Alumni Horizon Award celebrates the outstanding achievements of University of Alberta alumni early in their careers. One alumna is being recognized in this category this year: Lalitha Taylor ('05 BSc Nutr/Food), who is a registered dietician who has brought increased community focus on healthy eating.
The Alumni Honour Award recognizes the significant contributions made over a number of years by University of Alberta alumni in their local communities and beyond. This year, we are proud to announce that one ALES alumnus will receive an Honour Award: John Kuspira ('55 PhD), a leading plant geneticist who has inspired generations of student scientists.
The award winners from all faculties will be officially recognized at a formal ceremony on Monday, Sept. 25, at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, as part of Alumni Weekend.
