Health and Wellness Movement
Health Week 2016

Health Week 2016 is a week-long collaborative event featuring U of A student groups and services with the purpose of promoting healthy lifestyles and community building. HW2016 will raise awareness about preventative health and how individuals can holistically improve wellness. Focusing on mental health, HW2016 provides stress relief and encourages the formation of lifelong healthy habits which students will carry beyond their schooling, and influence communities outside of campus.
TEDxUAlberta

TEDxUAlberta brings TED talks, a well-established, successful global conference series, to a local level to champion the ideas, research, and voices of Edmontonians and UAlberta students, staff, and alumni. The TEDxUAlberta team hopes the conference will promote greater awareness and a keen appreciation for ideas and the impact of their delivery.

R.E Peter Biology Conference

The R.E. Peter Biology Conference is an annual event that showcases student research at the University of Alberta by both senior undergraduate and graduate students. The conference is open to any U of A student who is undertaking biological research in some capacity, and includes disciplines as diverse as medical genetics, conservation biology and forestry, physiology and developmental biology, molecular biology and genetics, and ecology and evolution.

This event attempts to break the barriers and stigma associated with mental health and encourages students to have open conversations in a safe and controlled environment. The conference will commence with keynote speaker followed by a plenary session which will include an introduction video provided by Jack.org and a Jack Talks.

Lift the Silence

Lift the Silence brings youth and young adults together for an opportunity to be educated and have interesting, much-needed conversations regarding mental health while still instilling a light-hearted, enjoyable atmosphere. Lift the Silence begins with networking as attendees arrive, accompanied by light snacks. The majority of the evening will encompass attendees being seated to enjoy speakers and performers of many kinds, ranging from mental health advocates to local improv teams.
Art & Design Graduate Students' Association
Between Among and Away

During April 2016 the ADGSA will dis/locate themselves to dc3 Art Projects to grapple with questions about what is means to be Between Among and Away by showcasing artwork, performance, and interdisciplinary research in the format of panel discussions, film screenings, and lectures. The purpose is to create an environment to engage with our topic while showcasing important research from U of A students, researchers, alumni within the context of contemporary Canadian Art. This project gives graduate students an opportunity to bring to fruition a professional research event and brings our research into our community while strengthening our individual and collective networks and enhancing our U of A experience.

The Energy Law Club and the Environmental Law Students Association will be hosting 5 members for a discussion regarding "the state of sustainable resource development in Alberta". The purpose of the panel is non-adversarial, rather, it is intended to shed light and find common ground on this controversial topic from both a developmental and environmentally conscious perspective.

The purpose of the event is to provide cultural and social interactions for the families and individuals living in Edmonton, integrate them with other communities in Canada and offer variety of programs and services to its members. BSAUA currently represents about 300 graduates, undergraduates, alumni and faculty at the University of Alberta. The Bengali New Year is a multicultural event organized by BSAUA which involves various performances like drama, dance, music, arts and games which depict the various characteristics and traditions of all the participating students and cultural groups.
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Youth Action Committee
CBCF YAC 2016 Breast Health Symposium

Based at the University of Alberta, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Youth Action Committee (CBCF YAC) was created with the hope of educating youth about risk reduction and early detection in addition to providing breast health information. The 5th annual Breast Health Symposium will feature three guest speakers, a cancer researcher, a nutritionist, and breast cancer survivor with a personal story.
