Member at Large

Rachel Persad graduated from the University of Alberta in 2015 with a BA of Criminology. During her time at the U of A she worked in recreation as a swimming instructor/lifeguard, and lived at the Campus Saint Jean Residence. At CSJ she served on the resident’s student council and helped run Etudiants pour la Promotion de Francais. She also spent an exciting semester abroad at the U of A’s satellite campus in Cortona, Italy. Rachel worked in the non-profit sector as a youth worker which developed her passion for working with marginalized populations, then worked as a Probation Officer in Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin, AB. Rachel now works as a Gang Exit and Community Outreach Facilitator with the Edmonton John Howard Society.

Outside of work, Rachel volunteers with Just-Us Girls, a female run community based initiative, designed to help young women navigate the criminal justice system. Additionally she is a regular volunteer at St. Faith’s Anglican Church -- cooking and serving breakfast on Saturday mornings.

In her spare time, you can find Rachel having brunch on Whyte Ave, dancing at concerts, or snowboarding and hiking in the mountains.
