Current Volunteer Opportunities

Prairie Urban Farm: August Harvest

This volunteer opportunity is organized through our campus partners: Prairie Urban Farm.

Prairie Urban Farm (PUF) is a one-acre, mixed crop, community food system in the University of Alberta's South Campus. Their goals are to demonstrate and provide skill-building opportunities in alternative, regenerative ways of growing food within the city and to grow access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food. Volunteers will help with spring seeding and planting in preparation for the growing season. They will also receive a tour of the farm, hear about the various projects PUF has been working on and learn where all the vegetables go after they've been harvested. After the tour, we'll all have a chance to get our hands dirty and do some planting ourselves!

Benefits for you:

  • Interact with alumni, staff, students and other community members
  • Learn about how to grow your own food in the city
  • Gain practical planting skills
  • Have a tangible impact on the campus community
  • Access to our volunteer perks, which include free tickets to select alumni events, volunteer socials and professional development opportunities

  • No previous experience required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dress appropriately for the activity (make sure to wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty, and dress for the weather)
  • Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty!
