Marlon Michel, ’99 MD, now an anesthesiologist practicing in the USA, was brought up in the tiny southern town of Glenwood, Alberta – population about 300. Growing up in a rural community, Michel never considered himself the most intelligent person, rather he contributes his great success to hard work and getting involved in the community.

Today, Michel wants to support rural learners and motivate other graduates to donate and give back. In the spirit of celebrating his 20 year graduation anniversary, Michel pledged $75, 000 USD over five years, towards the inaugural 'Marlon Michel Class of 1999 Endowment in Medicine'. It will be a first-of-its-kind faculty hybrid award that is based on both academic standing and indicated financial need for MD students at the University of Alberta.

The inaugural award recipient will be announced in the Fall.
