We are pleased to announce that the Institute for Prairie Archaeology has received final approval by the University of Alberta. The Institute, which will be headed by Dr. Jack Ives (Professor, Northern Plains Archaeology) as Executive Director, has been established to conduct, facilitate, and promote archaeological, anthropological and interdisciplinary research in the Northern Plains of western Canada and the northern United States. The Bodo archaeological site, and the associated field school, in the larger Neutral Hills region of Alberta, will be run under the umbrella of the new Institute. The Field Project Director for the Institute, and this year?s Field School Director for the Bodo Archaeological Site is Elizabeth Mann.

In the coming months, we encourage prospective graduate students and undergraduates to visit the Department of Anthropology web page for Institute news concerning research opportunities and the 2009 University of Alberta Archaeological Field School.
