Visiting Scholar from Japan

The Department welcomes Dr. Tetsuya Amano, visiting scholar from Hakkaido University, Sapporo

Dr. Tetsuya Amano will be collaborating with the Baikal-Hokkaido Archaeology Project (BHAP) team for his research on bear rituals in the North. His goal is to create a comparative study of bear ritual and ceremony between Eurasia and America.

Dr. Amano is a professor of archaeology at Hokkaido University and his interests are in the Holocene prehistory of Hakkaido and Northeast Asia, with emphasis on the Okhotsk and Satsumon cultures (8th-13th century A.D.). He will be at the U of A until September.
