About Me

Beyza Ural-Marchand is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta. Her research fields are development economics and international trade with a focus on the microeconomic impacts on households. She conducts research on the effect of globalization on poverty, income distribution, and consumer prices in developing countries. Other research areas include the impacts of business cycle fluctuations on child education and child health, as well as the effects of energy access on household incomes.  

Beyza Ural-Marchand has completed her M.A. and Ph.D.in Economics at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, and her Bachelor of Science in Statistics at METU. Prior to completing her Ph.D. in Economics, she served as an Expert Statistician at the Central Bank of Turkey. She joined the University of Alberta in 2007. Currently, Prof. Ural-Marchand also serves as a Research Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA, Bonn).
