Italian Mosaic: The Kingdom of Naples

Join us in Italy from October 7 - 14, 2020

From the ancient Greek roots, to a Neapolitan majolica cloister and the 18th c. Royal Silk Factory and Royal Palace at Caserta, tasting local cheeses, wines , surrounded with  the perfume of lemons and the sea, Italy with UAlberta experts is sure to impress

This Mosaic Tour is a wonderful opportunity to experience in person the natural beauty, cultural history and grandeur of the Kingdom of Naples, in many ways the birthplace of Europe.  The ancient roots evident at Paestum and Pompeii provide the basis for the intellectual, religious, cultural and social fervor of the area.  The Byzantine influences at Amalfi, the Carthusian monastery at Padula, the architectural and artistic development of urban Naples  under the French and Spanish kings, such as St. Chiara and the majolica cloister, the  rise of Free Masonry evident in the Capella San Severo, the magic of the Reggia at Caserta and the Royal Silk Factory, Europe’s first utopian town at San Leucio all enticed the 18th c. Grand Tourists. Fundamental to the tour is enjoying the fresh local products such as the water buffalo milk mozzarella, the limoncello at Amalfi, the fresh catch of the day on the terrace of the hotel at Vico Equense on the Sorrento coast.
