Lecture: "Society's Cataclysmic Decline as Presented in Picturebooks and in new Visualizations of Fairy Tales", Dr. Grit Alter, Department of Subject-Specific Education, University of Innsbruck 3:00 pm Monday, September 18th, 2017 3-95 Humanities Centre Grit Alter studied English and Philosophy to receive a teaching degree for secondary schools from Greifswald University (Germany) in 2007. She completed her teaching degree while working at a secondary school for two years. Since 2009, Grit has been a researcher within the field of foreign language research at different universities in Germany. Among other conferences, she was also involved in organizing the international conference "Children's Literature in Language Education – from Picture Books to Young Adult Fiction" at Hildesheim University in 2010. In March 2011, she was awarded with the Graduate Student Scholarship by the International Council for Canadian Studies, which allowed her to spend two months conducting research in Canada. She finished her PhD project on inter- and transcultural learning in the context of Canadian young adult fiction in 2014 at Münster University (Germany). Grit is a board member of the German Society for Foreign (and Second) Language Research and the Canadian Studies Centre at Innsbruck University. Since March 2015 she has held a post-doc position at the University of Innsbruck (Austria) where she is currently working on her second book project on means of differentiation in ELT textbooks. Her further research interests include teaching literature and film in ELT, media literacy and TEFL methodology, esp. action- and product-oriented approaches.
