The University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra has prepared a cheerful winter concert, featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 and Wagner's Meistersinger Overture. It will also be presenting special premieres by two young Edmonton composers, all on the grand stage of Convocation Hall.
This Symphony is Beethoven's happiest, most exuberant work. His wit and jokes are sprinkled throughout the work, with a surprise around every corner! We promise to go over a few of these from the stage. Also experience Wagner’s Meistersinger Overture, a masterpiece that effortlessly weaves playful delight with busy counterpoints, converging into soaring sonic summits.
Extra specially: The USO will be premiering the charming 'Divertimento' by Geoff Li, which features diverse melodies fit for anything from the finest video game music to a waltz or two, and a super cool ending. Our other young composer, Joel Toews, showcases a veritable universe of human emotion and groovy beats, sure to rock your world, in his piece ‘Ra’ah’ - meaning: “To be Seen.”
Come witness the magic, and join the USO in banishing the winter blues with our most effervescent concert yet!
