Professionalization Funds

The Faculty of Arts supports professionalization activities for graduate students, such as: Support distinguished lectures, conferences/colloquia, publication subventions, or short retreats, to name just a few of the possibilities. Some activities are proposed and delivered entirely by graduate students whereas others are produced in collaboration with graduate coordinators, faculty members, etc.

There is a maximum of one award per department, but we will also consider applications from broad cross-departmental collaborations when monies allow. Proposed activities must be open to a wide range of graduate students rather than a narrow specialization, and events must take place within the academic year during which funds are requested. This fund does not support individual travel to a conference.

Number of Awards Available: Up to 3

Value of Awards: $500.00 each

To apply, please submit:

  • A short description of the activity planned
  • Brief supporting documentation (for instance, a bio and dates for a visiting lecturer; a title, date and cfp for a conference/colloquium; a one-page description of a publishing project, etc.). If you are applying for other funds to support your activity, you may submit a copy of that application.
  • A letter of support from your department's graduate coordinator.
