What is Applied Social Science Research?
The Certificate in Applied Social Science Research is an interdisciplinary certificate aimed at developing students' research skills in the social sciences through a combination of course work and hands-on research experience. Completing the certificate allows students to develop their research skills and to gain professional experience by participating in an applied social science research project. Students may pursue the Certificate while fulfilling existing requirements in their discipline.
Why add this certificate to your degree?
Through a combination of coursework and experiential learning, the Certificate in Applied Social Science Research will provide a strong methodological background for students seeking further education in the social sciences or health sciences. Additionally, the certificate's experiential component provides hands-on learning experiences through which students can develop practical research and critical thinking skills that are in demand among employers and policymakers.
What experiences are involved in obtaining this certificate?
To be awarded the certificate, students must complete *15 of course work. For a complete list, please refer to the university calendar.
In addition, all students completing the certificate during the specified year will be required to present their projects at the end of the winter semester either with their cohort or an an approved venue. Other presentation options, such as through a conference or alternative course, will be considered for students completing their projects during other semesters at the discretion of the Certificate Advisor.
