What is European Studies?
The European Studies Certificate develops students’ knowledge and skills gained in courses based in three categories of European Study: Histories and Politics; Literatures and Ideas; and Cultures and Societies. This certificate also rewards and encourages students who have training in a European language other than English.
Why add this certificate to your degree?
The certificate program in European Studies is designed to encourage multi-disciplinary breadth, study abroad experiences, and to give students with interests in Europe opportunity to develop their knowledge in the full range of European courses offered in the Faculty of Arts.
What experiences are involved in obtaining this certificate?
Students completing the European Certificate program are strongly encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for study abroad in Europe, either in U of A programs such as the U of A School in Cortona, with partner institutions, or through international internships offered by UA International.
What additional courses are required?
Students may pursue the Certificate in European Studies by fulfilling existing requirements for majors, minors or honors in their respective disciplines and by completing *30 in European coursework. Please see the university Calendar for details.
