Max Elgert is the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week

    Friday, January 10 – 46 assists, nine digs, five total blocks, and four aces in 3-2 road win over Brandon.  
    Saturday, January 11 – 45 assists, five digs, three kills, and two aces in 3-1 road win over Brandon.  

    Fourth-year Golden Bears setter Max Elgert turned in his best weekend of the season, leading the ninth-ranked Bears to a pair of upset road wins over the second-ranked Brandon Bobcats.

    Elgert finished the weekend with 91 assists, 14 digs, seven total blocks, six aces and five kills, as the Bears handed the Bobcats just their second and third losses of the season.

    The Athabasca, Alta. product finished Friday night’s match with a game-high 46 assists, the second highest total for Elgert this season. He also added five total blocks and nine digs in a 3-2 win.

    Elgert followed that up with 45 assists in a 3-1 win on Saturday, adding five digs, three kills and two aces. 

    Through 14 games this season, the fourth-year engineering student leads Canada West with 458 assists, while his 9.90 assist per set average is second in the conference.

    The 10-4 Golden Bears will look to add to their win-streak this weekend, as they visit the 2-12 MacEwan Griffins on Friday and Saturday night.
