Claiming not one, but two medals at the U SPORTS Track and field Championships at home in the Universiade Pavilion (Butterdome), Robert Chauvet earned one-third of the six medals won by the Golden Bears and Pandas over the weekend, being named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.
After being ranked fifth in the Men’s 1000m in the heading into nationals, the fourth-year Bear secured himself a bronze medal in the 1000m run, while also helping his team to a gold medal finish in the Men’s 4x800 metre relay.
In a run that brought the entire crowd to their feet, Chauvet, along with Royden Radowits, Nicholas Cook, and Brendan Calef secured the gold in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:33.82. Additionally, the product of Red Deer, Alta won bronze in the Men’s 1000m race with a time of 2:25.56, improving on his performance from the Canada West Championships from two weeks before by almost a full second.
Ultimately, the Bears as a team finished seventh at nationals to end the 2019/2020 season.
