Bears finish 14th at U SPORTS Cross-Country Championship

Bears place 14th nationally and sixth in Canada West

KINGSTON, Ont. (U SPORTS) – The Calgary Dinos captured their first-ever U SPORTS Men's Cross-Country, while the Laval Rouge et Or captured their first women's title, Saturday afternoon at Fort Henry Hill in Kingston, Ontario.

The Canada West champions were also awarded on Saturday, as Calgary took the men's title, while UBC claimed the women's. 

The Golden Bears placed 14th in the U SPORTS race, and sixth in Canada West. Sophomore Golden Bear Riley Stuermer had the best run of any UAlberta athlete, placing 44th overall with a run of 32:39.3. His run was also 13th among Canada West runners, giving him a spot on the Canada West second all-star team.

Other Golden Bear runners included Tyson Keddie (70th - 33:13.9), Robert Chauvet (82nd - 32:26.6), Eric Chan (97th - 33:50.4), Logan Arthur (112th - 34:23.9), Matthew MacLellan (119th - 34:43.5), and Curtis Thompson (125th - 35:07.9). 

Nicole Martynuik finished as the best Panda with a time of 30:42.6 (52nd), while Jasmine Faddema placed 81st at 31:13.1 for the Pandas, who didn't place in the team standings.
