Bears Selects capture Medicine Hat Charity Classic

    Sturmay-led rink captures 46 World Curling Tour points

    The Golden Bears selects curling team couldn't have asked for a better start to their World Curling Tour (WCT) season, as they team led by skip Karsten Sturmay captured the Medicine Hat Charity Classic this past weekend. 

    The Bears defeated Jason Gunnlaugson 5-4 in the final, capping off an undefeated 6-0 tournament record. They finished 3-0 coming out of the 'B' pool, before defeating James Pahl, Chang-Min Kim and Gunnlaugson in the playoff round. 

    The Sturmay rink features three current Golden Bears, including Sturmay, Glenn Venance and Chris Kennedy, along with Bears alumni Jason Ginter and Tristan Steinke

    With the win, Sturmay and the Bears also earned the $10,000 cash prize, and 46.481 WCT points. 

    The Bears selects team will be back in action at the Tour Challenge, which runs November 6th to 10th in Pctou County, Nova Scotia. 

    The University of Alberta will host the 2020 Canada West Championship at Saville Community Sports Centre, January 31st to February 2nd.
