Arguably one of the best goalies in Canada West women's hockey will be taking her talents to Sweden, as Pandas alumna Lindsey Post has signed a professional contract with SDE HF of the Swedish Women's Hockey League.
Post spent five seasons with the Pandas (2012-17), graduating as the Pandas all-time leader in wins (62), shutouts (31), save percentage (.935), and games played (92).
She also led the Pandas to their record eighth U SPORTS Championship in 2017, as she was named the a Tournament All-Star and Most Valuable Player.
The Chelsea, Quebec native spent the past two seasons with the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, helping the Inferno capture the 2019 Clarkson Cup. Post's best pro season came in 2017/18, when she finished with a 7-4-1 record, 2.21 goals against average, and 0.913 save percentage.
"Playing at the U of A really helped set me up for pursuing a professional career, first with the Calgary Inferno and now with SDE," said Post on her new contract. "I remember going to Sweden with the Pandas in my fourth season and saying it would be fun to live and play here one day."
The CWHL folded after the completion of the 2018/19 season, citing a business model that was economically unsustainable.
"Even though it’s under unfortunate circumstances with the CWHL folding and there still being no sustainable league in North America to play in, I’m still very excited for the chance to keep playing hockey at its highest level and continue to improve my game." continued Post.
Fellow Pandas alumnae Natasha Steblin and Morgan Kelly have also played professionally in Sweden, with Kelly currently on Göteborg HC's roster in the SDHL.
