VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes took apart the University of Alberta Pandas 31-5 during Canada West action Friday afternoon at Wallace Field.
Emerald Maze and Maddy Aberg put the Vikes comfortably in the driver seat with two tries each. Aberg notched a pair in the first half, while Maze tallied hers in the second half. Aberg also drilled home three convert kicks for the Vikes.
The Vikes defence overwhelmed the Pandas (0-3), as they kept them off the scoreboard until the final minute of the game, when Shelby Pierce dove in the try. Unfortunately for the Pandas, the kick wasn’t converted.
Scoring for the Vikes elsewhere came from Kelsey McKinnon in the 31st minute.
This was the largest margin of victory for the Vikes (3-0) this season.
The Vikes host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns (1-0) Friday, Sept. 27, at Wallace Field, while the Pandas are in action this Sunday when they take on the 0-2 University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (1 p.m.) in Vancouver.
