Golden Bears add Leverman to 2017 coaching staff Former MacEwan head coach joins Bears staff for 2017 season By Connor Hood on June 19, 2017 Cam Leverman The defending Canada West and U SPORTS Champion University of Alberta Golden Bears soccer team is pleased to announce that former MacEwan University Griffins head coach Cam Leverman has agreed to join the coaching staff for the 2017/18 season. Leverman will join the University as an assistant coach to Golden Bears head coach Len Vickery. In addition to assistant coach duties with the Bears, he will also serve as a principal coach in the University of Alberta’s Green & Gold Soccer Academy. Leverman spent 16 seasons with the Griffins, winning two ACAC conference titles and one CCAA National Bronze Medal. He was also on Team Canada’s coaching staff for the 2015 Summer FISU Games in Korea. “We are extremely fortunate to have a coach of Cam’s caliber and experience join us for the 2017 Canada West season as we seek further Canada West and U SPORTS honors.” said Vickery. “Given his outstanding contributions at club, provincial, university, and national levels, he will be a major contributor to our successful player development programs and the Green & Gold Soccer Academy.” The Golden Bears will open the 2017 Canada West season on the road, as they play visit the Mount Royal Cougars and Calgary Dinos on August 26th and 27th. Alberta’s home opener will be the following weekend, as they welcome the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Saskatchewan Huskies to Foote Field. The 2017 U SPORTS Championship will take place November 9-12 in Kamloops, B.C., hosted by the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
