VICTORIA (U SPORTS) – Alberta Golden Bear Kier Przyswitt earned the first medal for the University of Alberta on Friday, earning gold in the men's 50m butterfly.

Przyswitt finished with a time of 24.99, narrowly edging UBC's Dmitriy Lim by 2/100ths of a second.

“I had no idea (how close of a race it was),” said Przyswitt. “I just went right through the wall and hoped for the best. I knew I had a shot, but I knew there were some fast guys in that race. I was just hoping to podium."

The medal slots the Bears into 9th in the men's standings with 207 points, while the Pandas sit 14th with 86 points. The UBC Thunderbirds lead both the men's and women's standings with one race day left in Victoria.
