The Augustana Alumni Office and its generous supporters are pleased to provide the Phil and Doris Anderson Alumni Award (formerly the Augustana Alumni Entrance Award) - an endowed award which will be presented to one student each year. The eligible student will be entering the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Selection will be based on satisfactory academic standing and demonstrated leadership, community engagement, volunteerism and/or involvement in extracurricular activities at Augustana Campus.
Alongside the Phil and Doris Anderson Alumni Award, we also offer the Augustana Alumni Leadership Award, given to a student with satisfactory academic standing continuing in an undergraduate degree at Augustana Faculty. Selection is based on demonstrated leadership and volunteerism on campus.
Augustana Alumni 2018 Award Recipients
Augustana Alumni Entrance Award: Marie Carlson
Marie has lived in a number of different places--Two Hills, Vermilion, Grand Prairie and even Sweden--but chose to return to attend university near her hometown of Hay Lakes here at Augustana. A familial connection also brought her back, as both her parents and grandparents have attended in the past. As a psychology major, Marie is busy with her classes but finds time to volunteer in the community, and is immensely grateful for the Alumni Entrance Award, which has alleviated some of her financial stress and allowed her to focus on her studies.
Augustana Alumni Leadership Award: Jamie Grunwald
Jamie is a fourth-year biology student with an impressive list of extracurricular activities that she has taken part in throughout her degree. From working as a resident assistant in the first-year dorms to acting as president of the Augustana Science Club, Jamie also manages to find time to work for our Campus Visits program and play clarinet in the Camrose Community Band alongside her studies, which she hopes will lead her to medical school. Her work with Campus Visits allows her to articulate why she's grateful for Augustana: "I often tell prospective students when they come to visit Augustana that students often come for the small class sizes but they stay for the opportunities. That access to opportunity is especially true for my university experience due to the support I have had from generous donors."
We need your help.…
In order to support the Augustana Alumni Leadership Award in perpetuity, we need to build an endowment of over $50,000. If you wish to help support the growth of this endowment please contact our Office of Advancement.
