Happy Winter…I mean, Wednesday! It's the perfect week to cozy up indoors with all of the Wellness Week activities going on on campus. Do you have plans on Thursday or Friday? You do now! You have the chance to attend everything from chancellor and vice provost visits to an Augustana Campus Values Workshop, a free poutine bar, an international mental health dinner, a lecture at the public library, a 24-hour game marathon, a non-academic staff appreciation dinner, and a German food and movie night.

This weekend is also the Vikes for Tykes Toy Drive! Come out to support our athletes and donate to a good cause. Also, check out some of the upcoming Christmas concerts to get you in the holiday spirit.

Stay warm!

  • The 100 Days of Listening campaign ended last week-thank you to everyone who participated! Dean Tryphonopoulos received a lot of invaluable feedback and looks forward to continuing in the spirit of collaboration to build Augustana as an innovative campus invested in its community.
  • It's Wellness Week! Students are welcome to enjoy everything from meditation to movie nights, painting to plant parties, and free Booster Juice AND Chopped Leaf! Check out the schedule in the events section below for more information.
  • Three opportunities for students to be involved in campus and university-wide initiatives this week:
    • On Friday, students, staff, and faculty are invited to join the Augustana Academic Plan Committee for a Values Workshop. At this session, members of the Augustana community will meet with the Academic Planning Committee for a discussion and feedback on our campus' core values, aspirations, and goals for the future. Be sure to have a look at the spreadsheet attached to the calendar invite (Google Campus Events Calendar and in the My UAlberta App) before attending the meeting. It will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 am in the Roger Epp Room.
    • Join Chancellor Doug Stollery for a presentation and discussion about the University's commitment to the United Way Campaign on Thursday at 2:00 pm in the Roger Epp Room.
    • Join Vice-Provost Florence Glanfield (Indigenous Programming and Research) for a talk outlining her role as Vice-Provost Indigenous Programming and Research and work currently being done at Augustana to promote reconciliation and Indigenization. The session will run on Thursday from noon to 4 pm and a light lunch will be served.

  • Staff and faculty are welcome to attend an Information Management session this Thursday with our Chief Information Security Officer, the Information & Privacy Office, University Records, and University of Alberta Archives. Register for one of two sessions, held at 9 am and 11 am.

  • Join the Diversity Working Group for dinner on Thursday night to discuss International Mental Health in the Learning Commons (at 6:30 pm)
  • Also on Thursday, professor Sandra Rein is presenting her lecture on how Canada fits in today's global politics at the Camrose Public Library.
  • Are you a gamer? Check out the Magic the Gathering Unstable Draft this Friday, and/or join in on the 24-hour Gaming Marathon from Friday to Saturday in the Forum!
  • On Friday, join former students Makenzee Orr and Brendan Dzioba as they Dish Out Wisdom (over a FREE poutine bar)! Register at rsvp.augustana@ualberta.ca.
  • Attend a German Food and Movie Night on Friday at professor Kim Misfeldt's house!
  • Next Monday and Tuesday, enjoy a lecture on Hydroelectric Dams in Brazil's Amazon and one on the 2019 Nobel Prize winners.

Roughly one-fourth of our body's bones are located in our feet.

Do you want to share a fun fact? Send it (and your source) to augcomm@ualberta.ca!

  • Feel like going on a wintry drive? Head out to the Fridhem Heritage Church (about 30 minutes south of Camrose) to catch an early show of Sing Gloria as part of the Concert in a Country Church event this Sunday at 7 pm!

  • Vikings Volleyball swept Grande Prairie this past weekend: both teams won both of their games while out on the road! Congrat!
  • Both men's and women's basketball split the weekend with Lakeland. Good effort, everyone!
  • The Vikings Vikes for Tykes Toy Drive is this weekend! Come out to support your teams and bring a toy to donate to the Kinette Club of Camrose Silent Santa program and the Stollery Children's Hospital. For more information, visit www.govikings.ca/community/vikesfortykes.
