Performance in studio art is based on artistic achievement but it also requires exposure of the work to the public. For the purposes of this grant, "performance" is achieved by public exhibition.

Returning Student Grant
To qualify for this grant, first, second and third year students majoring or minoring in Studio Art must exhibit a selection of their university work in the "Art Awards Exhibition". Students must be majors or minors in the Art program and must be registered in at least one studio course the following year (grants are awarded the academic year following the exhibition). Note: A minimum of 2.0 G.P.A. on the 4-point system is required to qualify for this grant.
Returning students should also submit an Augustana Awards and Financial Aid Application online by April 30th, indicating their interest in a “studio art” scholarship.
Artistic merit will be evaluated by the art faculty and grants will be awarded accordingly.
New Student Grant
To qualify for this grant, incoming students (taking a major or minor in Studio Art) must have a Grade 12 final admissions average of 70% or higher OR have a 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits. Eligible students must complete the Application for Awards and Financial Aid by June 1, making sure to check off “studio art” under Augustana Specific Fine Arts Performance Grants.
Students must also submit a portfolio of six art works by June 1st. The portfolio of work must contain:
- two linear drawings
- two tonal drawings
- two colour works (paintings or collage)
At least two of these should be observed still life images; and at least one should be a portrait. Do not submit cartoons, caricatures, tattoo imagery, or copies of artwork. Images based on photographs are acceptable if it is apparent that these are part of an original concept, but do not include verbatim copies of photographs.
Submit ORIGINAL 2-D work that demonstrates your skill and understanding of image-making. Drawing from observation is essential. We are interested in your technical skills of perception and recording. Show us how you handle the fundamental problems of working from observation. Explore perspective, lighting, line, shape, texture, colour and composition. Submit work using a variety of drawing tools, materials and techniques. Show us your imaginative and creative skills.
Submissions will be evaluated by the Art Faculty at Augustana and grants will be awarded based on merit. Candidates must also participate in the "Art Grants Exhibition" during the second semester by exhibiting a selection of their work (from courses taken in the program). Note: First year students must maintain satisfactory standing [minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 on the 4-point system] in order to receive the grant at the end of the year.
Digital images of your work are acceptable, however original work is preferable. If submitting digital versions, each image should include a number, your last name, first name, year (e.g. 01_Smith_Amanda_2014). Provide a separate, numbered list of the images, including title, medium, size, and year of creation. Submit on CD or USB flash drive compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems. Images must be JPEG format with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi; a maximum size of 2280 x 1750 pixels and between 1 - 2 MB in size.
