Concert Facilities

The Augustana Faculty has a 450-seat University Chapel which serves as its primary concert venue.

This venue has excellent acoustics and is in demand as a concert, rehearsal, and recording space. It has been used for CBC broadcasts and by recording companies.

The University Chapel's resident instruments include a 2009 Steinway 9-foot grand piano and the Lede Memorial Pipe Organ (built in 1987 by Gabriel Kney, two-manual, 13 rank, tracker action).

The Augustana Campus is now home to the new Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre - a unique performing arts venue that was built through the collaborative efforts of the City of Camrose and the University of Alberta. It was conceived of as a performance space to celebrate the cultural achievements of the Camrose and area community and to provide access to the performing arts for the area. The overall design for the building included a great deal of attention not only to what the community was envisioning for the space but also towards sustainability for the future. It boasts many state of the art features such as entirely LED lighting, solar panels which blanket the 70' fly-tower, and first class lighting, sound and projection systems - making it a one-of-a-kind facility in North America and winner of several major design awards. It's built to accommodate performance and events big or small...The Cargill Theatre seats 580 on two sloped floors (a main floor and balcony), and the Mayer Family Community Hall boasts a sprung floor and can be configured to accommodate between 135 and 200 people seated, either at tables or theatre style. The Augustana Faculty uses this wonderful facility on a frequent basis. The theatre is home to two new Steinway concert grand pianos (9 foot and 7 foot) that Augustana faculty and students alike have opportunities to play on, in addition to the three recent Steinways already resident to our campus.

Practice Facilities

Classrooms are located in the Faith & Life building and comprise 8 practice rooms and 1 ensemble room - each furnished with either a grand or upright piano. Two classrooms are available for rehearsing as well.

Augustana currently has 6 grand pianos (including 3 Steinways), 12 acoustic uprights, a harpsichord, and 3 electronic keyboards which are used for rehearsing, teaching, and performing.

Library Music Resources

Augustana's library has a substantial music collection of scores, books, periodicals, and sound recordings, which continues to be expanded. Recordings and scores may be signed out by students for use both within and outside of the Augustana Faculty library. Within the library, music students have full access to on-line indexes, including ones valuable for music research.
